Animal-Friendly Gourmet CookingThe main purpose of this site is to provide cool and tasty recipes that are made with 'animal-friendly' ingredients.
If you have been using our previous site, this new site is much improved, especially when searching for recipes and/or ingredients.
We strive to provide recipes and ideas that are:
- Easy to follow and reproduce
Vegan recipes, ingredients and products are marked with a symbol
We have prepared each and every recipe that you find on this page ourselves, so this is not a collection of recipes obtained from 'elsewhere' but are all things that we have actually cooked and found to taste good!A lot of people think that vegan or vegetarian food is for 'tree huggers' and only supposed to be raw, healthy and tasteless. We want to do our part to change this mindset by not only providing ideas, recipes and instructions on how to choose ingredients that are animal-friendly but that also taste good.
How do we do that? For example by providing step by step instructions for making famous foods that many people thing cannot be made meatless, such as French Onion Soup. We also explore techniques to make brown gravys and soups that most people think can only be made with beef stock. What do we define as 'humane'? That's of course a tricky question. Some people are vegan and eat no animal-based products at all, others are vegetarian, etc. We will try to provide a rationale behind all our suggestions and recipes so you can make up your own mind. As one example, I don't generally eat eggs unless they are from a local farm where I can see the chickens run around and I eat no chicken, period. Other people eat no meat but fish. On this site we decided to provide only vegetarian and vegan recipes but I think you will find that those are not missing anything!
